I'm not as sold on "straight" gravel as is Rhonda, I've tried potting soil
UNDER gravel which is not too bad, but still kinda gives your water the
"weak tea" look. I've mixed lime pellets WITH the potting soil, which keeps
the alkalinity up, but takes DAYS to clear up!

I'm experimenting with pool filter sand - a real coarse sand, which looks
promising, but the jury is still out.
