when i was young i did some taxidermy. they use arsenic or boraxo soap. i
used the old 20 mule team boraxo soap on fish and animals and it always
worked perfectly for me. i never used arsenic for obvious reasons. i just
picked up some borax at the regular food store. also i think you want it to
stay dry. of course i always put the borax on the inside skin right away.
in taxidermy we had to take the fat off the inside of the skin and we rubbed
the inside of the skin. i dont remember if we had to punch a hole in the
fish head to remove the brain. but if we did it would have been from the
back side. and a little borax into the brain cavity would seem like a good
idea. good luck.
