Nightcrawlers are difficult to raise in a normal box because they're
"earth-movers" and it doesn't suit their needs very well without feeding
them large amounts of leaflitter (which is what they eat). You can keep
them alive better however, if you keep them in a bed of leaves and keep
it moist.
However, redworms are very simple to maintain and you can take care of a
lot of your food and paper garbage by employing them in a
vermi-composting setup, as well, providing extra food for your fish.
Everybody wins here. Worth checking into :)

Does anyone on the list any suggestions as to successful maintenance of
nightcrawlers over an exteneded period of time (months or years,
perhaps). I ripped up some newspapers and placed them in with my
nightcrawlers, but I'm still getting quite a bit of mortality. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.
