Thanks for your advice, Chris, especially re the "outdatedness" of the
Handbook on Darters. It makes not being able to get it a little easier to
take.

On the regional pubs, I've got a copy of the _Freshwater Fishes of the
Carolinas, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware_, and I've recently ordered
_Freshwater Fishes of Virginia_ and _Delaware's Freshwater and
Brackish-Water Fishes_. But I was hoping to get books focusing exclusively
on darters.
