I ended up purchasing from DeLorme a TopoQuads USA
program. It's about $100/state (it takes 4 CDs for Tennessee),
but you get up to date scans of topo maps.

My experience and complaint in using (traditional, hardcopy USGS) topo maps of Florida is that while the "physical geography" is fine, the "human geography" info is generally 25 or more years old, and in this state at least, that means truly horrible.

Do I understand you to say that the DeLorme TopoQuads have apparently combined USGS-quality physical geography information overlaid with the current human geography data as is used in their other map products such as StreetAtlas and the like?

(If that's the case, I've just discovered yet another fishy item to add to ye olde xmas list.)
