Its "fleas," not "fish," and it was written by Robert W. Hegner to describe
protozoan parasites I think that it goes like this:
Big fleas have little fleas,
Upon their backs to bite them.
And little fleas have little fleas,
and so ad infinitum.
Dr. Hegner wrote a book during the 1930's called "Big Fleas Have Little
Fleas or Who's Who Among the Protozoa." It contains his poems, cartoons,
and accounts of some of his adventures as a field protozoologist. The book
is excellent reading (although the sections on monkey-hunting are now a
little disturbing). Old copies can be found in larger libraries. I have
looked for copies in used book stores but have not found any. A paperback
reprint came out in the 60's or 70's, I think.

Can anyone supply the complete correct version and source of the short poem
which goes something like,
"Little fish have bigger fish (something something ) to bite them
And (something about bigger and bigger fish)
And so ad infinitum"
Thanx,
Bill Allen
