If you can get to the San Marcos River, I suggest the follow site -

On 10-28-1999, Took Rt 35 south from Austin to San Marcos. Took Rt 80 east
(left) about 1.8 miles to County Road 101 (historical marker). Took 101
south (right) to bridge over San Marcos River. Parked off road over bridge
on right. San Marcos River forms the border between Caldwell, Guadalupe
and Comal Counties SE of San Marcos.

Found the following species -

sailfin mollies
Amazon mollies
Pleco
Texas cichlids
Mexican tetras
orangethroat darters
dusky darters
stonerollers
blacktail shiners, Cyprinella venusta
bullhead minnows
redbreast sunfish, Lepomis auritus
crayfish
tadpoles

Most interesting combination of species in one site that I have ever seen!
