They do. But different species eat different organic components. The large nightcrawlers (which are exotic btw ;) are "earthmovers" which pull leaves and debris into thier holes and chew on it there. They are actually a pest in northern forests because they consume the leaf litter so fast the aspens loose their infastructure. The smaller guys are "earthmakers" which are native and consume pretty much whatever is there.

They all lay eggs.

I'm hypothesizing that that lil guy didn't feel he was getting enough food and took a dive up his neighbor to consume what his neighbor wasn't digesting completely.

It's very informative and would make a great rearing culture for our aquariums. I haven't done it yet, but that's because I needed to get money for the manufactured bins, as I'd like to have it in my basement... And my wife doens't totally trust me on building it right heehee.

Maybe it was giving birth? I always thought worms ate organic debris. That's
