I tried a worm bin last year. A little while after the initial setup,
the population started declining. After a lot of thought, I determined
that the cause of the problem was that I was keeping the soil too
moist. And, really, I wasn't being excessive with the water. But it
was too much.

So, while the books warn against underwatering, obviously doing the
opposite is a danger to keep in mind as well.
