NANFA-- Madtom IDs

Is there a rule of thumb for the easy ID of an madtom vs a juvenile
catfish? We caught several juvenile black bullheads this weekend but
were not quite sure until the black barbels were noticed. We are
supposedly supposed to have freckled, brown and tadpole madtoms in our
area.
