Even better, I have a small mature Southern mixed hardwood forest in my
backyard, even a small stand of shagbark hickory! It's on a gently sloping
hillside, making for good possibilities to build a darter & shiner riffle
"pond" under full canopy. We also have a good starting collection of native
understory plants, like a native passionflower that produces small
greenish-white flowers and several species of native Trilium. We even have
an American wisteria, different from the widely introduced Japanese wisteria
in that it flowers during the entire warm season (like now...). And we have
secure space in the house for aquaria, such that our cats can't putz around
with them. It's lookin' good.
