The center brace in a tank can be there for a lot of reasons like preventing
strip lights from falling into a tank. You can press on the brace and
easily flex it so it can't be under that much tension.

Listen to me talking myself into going into the garage and getting the
jigsaw. Perhaps I will fabricate a brace from 1/2 inch Plexi.
