Goldens are awesome at getting rid of algaes and duckweed in tanks and
ponds. They are also great looking fish when big ( 7 inches plus- eleven and
above are outrageously cool!) putting any of the large barbs to shame. The
only draw back to them is they don't mind making lunch of sunfish fry , so I
try discourage them in my ponds. They also make great dither fish in a
sunfish tank, since the excess nutrients of feeding sunfish cause algae, it
goes hand in hand. Not to mention the big ones are found in the same areas
as many sunfish, as evident by catching them when fishing for sunfish. Uh,
they don't taste very good though.
