I hadn't given much thought to how humans have spread so many species outside
their native habitats and to how few nonnative species ever cause a problem
and how those that do cause problems are only called invasive because they
somehow are-in-odds with what we want to do. It was also odd to see species we
often want to see succeed called unimportant to the overall ecology. Like the
desert pupfish, by their definition it isn't really important whether it survives
or not except to a few individuals who see it as desirable.
