There are also rumors that they're still in the Congaree Swamp National Park near Columbia, SC since it's one of the largest oldgrowth forests in the southeast. Many searches have been done and none found here yet. All I've ever seen there has been Pileated woodpeckers but this is a good reason to continue to have hope.
