Ahhh... Hammer handle control! I've had a couple big follows like that up
in the north country. You're like "Aw man, another lil' slime ball" and
then you see this big black shadow appear and disappear so fast, you thought
you were imagining things. Never had a hook up like that though...

Yeah I think the mudminnow earns the "spunky monkey" prize for North
American fish. What they lack in color (in contrast to darters etc) they
make up for in attitude.
