Jim,
Here in SC the DNR probably won't give out the info to just anyone. Ours, like many state depts of Natural Resources are underfunded and facing more cutbacks. Dustin and I have managed to establish a good working relationship with our DNR and in turn they provide us with the occansional site data, or access we need. So far we've discovered several sites for protected fish species that were previously thought to be extirpated and may have possibly discovered two new mudpuppy species. DNA studies on the Necturus are currently underway.

I have reduced the number of trip reports that I've written and when I do write them I give site location numbers that I assign myself. I also say that if anyone would like further site location info, to email me off list. I do this mainly because of one person who has visited several sites I've listed in the past and trashed them, including a site that is now protected by the state (he visited the site AFTER I told him it was protected and off limits - this person is NOT a NANFA member but does claim to be).

This is your choice but I really think you've misinterpreted what some folks are saying.
