Hi Fish Passage Enthusiasts,

Please forward this announcement to others who may be interested....

The *Open Rivers Initiative*, a new funding opportunity for dam removal and
fish passage projects, is now open through the NOAA Restoration Center. The
full Request for Proposals and application guidelines can be found-in-the
NOAA Restoration Center Website http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/habitat/restoration
- look under funding opportunities.

Applicants must apply to grants online, which involves registering for
grants online, so, if you plan to apply, please register early to allow time
to sign up on this online application system. *The due date for applications
is Jan 13, 2006*. The money is for fish passage projects that will be
implemented in the summer of 2007. Dam Removals, culvert/crossing
replacements with bridges, tidegates, culvert retrofits and fish ladder
implementation projects are all eligible to receive Open Rivers funding, but
long-term fixes, such as Dam and tidegate removals and clearspan bridges
will be higher priority for funding than ladders, culvert retrofits and
designs. We are soliciting proposals of up to $1mill/project, but expect
the average funding amount to be $250,000. We hope this funding souce will
be available in future years as well, and expect to release our Open Rivers
RFP again-in-this time next year.

We are looking forward to further opening our rivers through this
initiative,
Thank You
Leah
