So true. I breed killifish in simple bare tanks. The
fish are beautiful and I do plan on setting up a
killifish community tank from my stocks. I keep fish
that are pretty but they are not all displayed. My
cichlid tank is a better show piece being a 55 gallon
mbuna tank but it is still kind of new and not fully
stocked but it is aquascaped. I never was a
fishkeeper. I like watching the fish spawn and
watching them grow. There have been a few fish that
were added to my display tanks which were not
bred(tetras mostly). Some fish I would only try to
breed when I was getting low on numbers as they were
sort of difficult for me to raise and could be bought
cheaply if the line was lost(barbs). Now I think I
could raise them easily as I keep alot of small live
food cultures like vinegar eels. I truely like raising
fish more than having a show tank but the show tank is
a place of respect when fully done(going to be moving
again in the spring so it may take me a couple years
to have what I want). I started atleast 20 people in
keeping fish from seeing one of my 2 show tanks while
I was in college. Most of them have become fishkeepers
who are the ones only buying males. My aunt how ever
have become a guppy breeder. She rarely buys a male
guppy but tries to buy a few female guppies each year
for new blood.
