The Colburn Vernal Pool and Voshell Invert books are fabulous for
introduction, familiarization, and life history notes without bogging you
down with detail that only entomological taxonomists need to know. By
having had the Voshell book on hand, it's really enhanced our fish
collecting experiences to get to know some of the bycatch... In fact,
there's been a couple times where we just quit looking-in-fish, and just
kept looking under the rocks :)

And vernal pools are just cool.
