I just got back from a field trip to a creek in Athens, Alabama, primarily
to collect black darters, Eth. duryi. The males we found were in exquisite
full color, with dorsal coloration like I've never seen in them before. And
the females were all nicely plump and gravid. Even though we had snow
blowing around over the weekend (no accumulation, of course) the darters are
ready to rock. This includes stripetails, Eth. kennicotti, who just aren't
as splashy.
