Thanks guys I rather like loaches too, if they were native I'd probably be as
interested in them as I am in catfish. I am planning on setting up a very old
metal framed tank I got about 33 years ago from a petshop here in Wilmington.
The tank was old then and I think it might have been hand made. I had to
remove the slate bottom because I couldn't find the old style tar to reseal the
tank and silicone wouldn't stick to the slate so it always leaked. Now it has a
glass bottom and the glass sides are sealed with silicone but it still looks
like one of the very old tanks I used to see when I was a kid. I plant to set
it up with lots of small fish most of them native and those Malaysian snails
which I really like but they can get out of hand. I like odd things in my
aquariums, water scorpions, shrimp, crayfish, anything different and I thought a big
leech might be cool to see every once in a while cruising through the tank.
but I didn't want to get one if it was going to eat my fish. I plan to use
black sand called Tahitian moon sand and plant a native vallisnaria and cape fear
spadder docks and maybe a cypress tree if I keep it in my greenhouse. It
should be a very cool native tank.
