Speaking of quests...does anyone else have any native fish quests for this year planned? Sort of my new years resolution for fish...I've got a nice list accumilating on must haves things to see and do and hopefully I can check them off with as much pride as I did in the past years experience.

They include...and in no particular order after #1

#1 Find a snail darter over 90 mm
#2 See an ashy darter
#3 spawn my bloodfin darters
#4 collect saffron shiners
#5 spawn my banded pygmy, flagfish, or golden topminnows (all courtesy of Doug Ebeling) in a big ole container outside
#6 see-in-least 3 more Nothonotus darters
#7 go to the Conasauga - out of TN drainage more importantly to me
#8 get to conference (Thank God its in Sept)
#9 get decent visibility when I snorkel with Casper
#10 attempt to not acquire more things that hold water and fish

Heck, which natural beauties like those, who needs glofish?
Ah, if only there was a way to get them to STAY colored up like that...
a guy could make a fortune. A bloody fortune.

My "local" population is the southernmost one-in-Silver Creek in Clarke
County, which is still an hour & a half drive from home. It's reputed to
be the most colorful of all, but after seeing these pics, I would have
to wonder about that. Unlike the case with most native fish, most of the
locals seem to know about the "neon fish" living in the creek, their
radiance being noticed by everyone, but I bet if anyone saw specimens
like yours in a tank they'd positively flip! A buddy of mine from that
area gave me a bunch this past sumer, but they were all females. :(
I'm going to have to go back in a few months for some more fer shure.
I've been trying to raise native fish awareness a bit here in my town in
my quest to determine if the Bluenose Shiner is still here or not, ( not
recorded since 1954 ) and a tank of those little jewels displayed in a
public place would sure do the trick of getting people to think about
things they normally don't. Wouldn't it be great if everyone suddenly
realized that the little ditch fishes were something to treasure & protect?
