I agree with everything Casper just said. Native fish enthusiasts are so
few and far between that our collecting has practically no impact on native
fishes. As long as we arent releasing fish back into the wild I believe
our impact is zero.

Some NANFA members especially when we are just starting out may take species
we are not supposed to because of carelessness or out of the desire to have
a trophy species in a tank. This behavior is almost always corrected with
little discreet reminder from a fellow NANFA member.

As far as regulations are concerned I think it should just be - Dont take
protected species. I think if a states laws dont explicitly spell out
what kind of collecting is allowed then we shouldnt push for clarification.
I think if you ask for specifics more often than not youll get a dont
collect anything sort of law because thats the easiest way for them to
deal with it. I say this on the assumption that fish collection laws
originate from someone asking for clarification. I think thats how you end
up with stupid laws that allow for collection for bait but not for
aquariums.

If we could get laws like the Arkansas one then fine, I just don't think we
can get that from most of the states.
