If it was a very productive ditch, there were probably hydroids =
(cnidarians the same as jellyfish) out the bazoo. This was from series =
of stings in a marine system (crawling through turtlegrass), but I've =
had near equal stings from productive systems on my legs and ankles.

Mind you, this is far more graphic because I'm very sensitized to =
cnidarian stings. But I think it illustrates the kind of "sting pattern" =
one might recieve. =20

Does anyone know of anything in freshwater that can sting? Last year me =
and some friends were collecting in a ditch that is rather isolated but =
rich in species. We were ate up by something in the water, it felt just =
like jellyfish do in salt water (milder). someone said it was =
bladderwort but I never heard of bladder wort stinging people. the water =
was very acidic and full of plant material.
