Sajjad,
Reef aquarists use calcium hydroxide frequently (aka "kalkwasser"). Anhydrous calcium hydroxide is caustic (causes burns) and must be handled with care. Having worked with anhydrous calcium hydroxide, I can tell you that it is a very fine powder that easily becomes airborne so precautions must be taken to avoid inhalation. I would suspect anhydrous calcium chloride to have similar properites (i.e., skin irritant, slightly caustic).

Bob,

I just checked the website of Carolina Biological supply.
They have laboratory grade Calcium Chloride (Anhydrous).

I recall vaguely from high-school chemistry classes that
it was something one had to be careful about (it's either
Calcium chloride or Calcium carbide ... one of those was
nasty stuff!). Anyone know?

Calcium Chloride (Anhydrous)
CAS: 10043-52-4
Flammability: None
Formula: CaCl2
111.0
Health Risk: Moderate
Notes: Used as a drying and dehydrating agent for organic liquids and
gases
Reactivity: Slight
Synonym: Calcosan

5-1840 Pellets, 4 to 8 mesh $6.75 500 g
