<< Is their a way to measure the amount of CCl in you water the way you can
measure the specific gravity of water that has NaCl in it? Also is there an
amount
to shoot for? >>
Yes, but the relationship is different. Here is some data from a chemical
handbook
Conc % Density CaCl2 Density NaCl
anhydrous hydrated
0 0 1.00 1.00
0.50 0.66 1.0041 1.0035
1.0 1.32 1.0083 1.0071
1.5 1.99 1.0124 1.0107
2.00 2.65 1.0166 1.0143
2.50 3.31 1.0208 1.0178
3.00 3.97 1.0250 1.0214
3.50 4.65 1.0292 1.0250
As you can see Calcium chloride is denser. If you start with the hydrated
form, the concentrations are different because of the added weight of the
hydrated water.
