Yep, They get big I have seen them 2 feet plus. There are also lots of
smaller mudpuppies in the creek with the external gills, and lots of =
brown
water snakes that are mean as hell. I saw an idiot high school kid pick =
one
up by the tail like the Croc Hunter Steve Erwin does. It bit the crap =
out of
him. My side hurt I was laughing so hard. He was trying to impress his =
girl
friend who he was swimming with. It is still funny now 4 years later.
=20
Yeah those brown or Northern water snakes are evil. They'll bite you =
just to bite you lol. One time I saw one submerged in a deep riffle, =
hanging on some rocks. I wondered if they were as offensive in the =
water as out, kinda thinking about the snapping turtle analogy. I =
offered my Perfect Dipnet (tm) as my sacrifice to the snake god... It =
took him about a full minute to finally let go. He never left his spot =
on the rock though. So I would call it vehement defense :)
=20
My uncle and cousins were bass fishing one time... One of the snakes was =
swimming by and my cousin decided to smack-in-it with his crankbait. =
While he didn't hook it, it did accept the challenge and make way into =
the boat via the motor shaft and trough. They managed to flip it out of =
the boat, but it came back, trying to use the same point of entry! =
After knocking it off, they just left. I wonder some times how many =
attempts would have been required to satisfy that snake. =20
=20
Mean lil' sob's! :)
