I have built a little photo tank from glass. Dimensions are 12" wide,
8" high and 2" deep, but it could be any size you want. I insert
another piece of glass inside it that is slightly narrower in width. I
use this to keep the fish-in-the front of the tank and to help it
maintain itself-in-right angles to the camera. If the fish is reluctant
to cooperate, I sometimes gently use the extra pane of glass to "press"
the fish against the front to hold it still.

Ambient sunlight is great but I supplement it with a strobe. Also use a
neutral gray cardboard background. if someone assits me, I could send
some sample photos.
