I changed water last weekend, perhaps 35%. I keep up with water changes quite frequently. My pH is always slightly basic due to partial limestone substrates, which also keeps the water pretty "hard". Like I said, I checked the water quality parameters and everything was as normal...pH, NH3, alkalinity, NO2, etc...

Hmmm..

What you describe sounds like a water quality issue to me. When was the
last time you did a water change? How often and how much do you change
your water? What was your pH? The fact that the fish lived that were put
in different water essentially excludes the possibility of disease. Did
anyone spray anything anywhere in the house like insecticide, cleaner
stuff, hair spray, air freshner etc? Pumps will suck that stuff into fish
tanks which can screw your fish up. There must have been something fairly
bad that triggered this within the last few days to a week.

It really sucks when something like that happens.
