NANFA-L--Record size hammerhead shark

This week, a Florida fishing captain caught a world record specimen of great
hammerhead shark: 14.5 ft and 1280 lbs. Previous tackle record was for an
individual caught in 1982 that was 991 lbs. Story and photo can be seen

According to Jose Castro (The Sharks of North American Waters), great
hammerheads can get quite a bit larger: > 1000 lbs (common), 18.3 ft
(recorded), and 20 ft (reputed). Those data, I guess, were either for fish
caught by other means or for sizes not officially confirmed.
