Please do not misunderstand what anyone is saying here; keeping natives in a
pond is a great idea (see my upcoming FAMA column for just this topic). Its
definitely an admirable thing -- and sure as heck beats goldfish or koi
(which are ugly anyhow... :) There's nothing wrong with it, and I truly
wihs more people would keep natives. Dustin has already pointed out some
good alternatives to do with offspring, and it sounds like you did pass some
on to other aquarists. The point we have to make is that once a fish is
removed from its native pool and kept for even a short while, it is no
longer "native," and should not be re-released.
