Some behaviors are learned, others are inherited. And yes, people do know. In this context, it is important to realize that capacity to learn behaviors is also inherited. I think what Peter meant was, if this capacity to learn behaviors is selected for, AND ALSO (with regard to the inherited behaviors) if the behavior is selected for. A learned behavior itself cannot be selected for any more than any acquired phenotypic component can be selected.
