Wow, there are some great stories out there. And obviously people have spent quality time with their families with fish, bugs, streams, etc. I hope to have my daughter or son telling me the difference between a live spike and kidneyshell by age 3. No dad its the widely gapped lateral teeth you idiot! lol

Its great to read all this. I thought I might tap into some stories by posting, glad I did.

My daughter was going to creeks with my wife and me before she could
say 'fish,' and by the time she was five she had seined, caught
crayfish, learned the difference between a dragonfly and a damselfly.
Throughout her preschool years I was working on my dissertation, with
my wife as my field assistant. Camille was along, and we managed to
get the data collected, while keeping an eye on her and keeping her
safe. When she was 11 she had identified, without my help, all the
salamanders that occurred in our springs, woods, and branch at our
place in Kentucky. Today, she is a stream ecologist with a Ph.D. from
UC Berkeley and a postdoc job with University of Minnesota. Start 'em
out right, and they'll go with it. Nature is the best place for kids.
