The living bowfin is native only to North America.
It is a true pioneer - in evolution and in ecology.
It inspires distaste in some, affection in others.
It has a very strong sense of "family values" but its appearance and
behavior are different from almost every other kind of fish.
Its strong, tough, and enduring.
It may not get the popular vote, but its definitely a great candidate.
