I have not really liked this thread nor disliked it.
The arguements became a battle of what I said is
right. DDT, which I studied in college as a
horticulture student, is not harmful in low quanities.
The problem with DDT and many other chemicals is that
they do not break down quick enough. I did not take
the time to look up the ban date, but the predator
species are still having problems because of this
chemical which has not been used in 20+ years in the
US. We as humans started showing ill effects from DDT
being sprayed on food crops after the birds of prey
problems were well documented. Also the stream beds
are still showing low traces of DDT which are feeding
the worms that the small fish eat and then the
sporting fish like bass eat and each time you go up
the food chain you get a higher concentration of DDT.
That is why the predators showed the biggest problems
first.

I am a nature loving libertarian(I hate national
goverment). On my farm, which I lost after breaking my
back at work, I was sent a letter from the county as
the state passed a law every county had to have a
planning zone given to it and part of my new zoning
laws stated I could not have old cars without them
being fenced in as my area was zoned as residential. I
loved rebuilding old cars and kind of had a small junk
yard(12 cars at the highest) which were purchased
stripped of useable parts and then hauled off. That
was just the beginning. As I love nature I had an area
for wild flowers. I also had(and still do at my dads
farm) honeybees. SO I never mowed this corner of my
lot until frost. I had to appear in court for allowing
this part of my property to get grown up. What is even
stranger is there was no housing developments around
me. I had a 7 acre track between a 50 acre farm and
500 acre farm with farms all around these. I was one
of 8 farmers that had to go up and plead our rights to
have high grass as farmers. The courts sided with us
against the planning commission but we had to fight to
have grass tall enough to cut hay. Truth can be much
harder on such laws than they want you to know. The
EAS in my opinoin does not do enough to protect the
inviroment. This has kind of been stated by another.
To much is swept under the rug before it can even get
to the ESA people.
