NANFA-- Tank decorations

Has anyone ever tried using grape vines inside of their tanks? I saw an
interesting tangle of vines yesterday that would look very much like gnarled
tree roots hanging into the water but am afraid of what they may
inadvertently add to the water (color?, chemicals?) During our recent
drought, I had spotted an old stump that I had planned on collecting to
decorate a 100 gallon tank with. Unfortunately, my procrastination and
excessive spring rains led to the stump now being under 4 feet of water.
The grape vines would give me the same effect but be a lot easier to
collect. Anyone with advice out there?
