My son is in from his job in Oregon and asked me, after he'd seen my 1 year
old specimens of tank-raised Central Longears: Dad, why don't more people in
the USA keep such beautiful specimens of North American native fishes
instead of the numerous Cichlid species that are found in all the pet-shops?

I told him that most aquarists are discouraged by the above species, being
told that they are "far-too-common" and are more aggressive than the
tropical species of cichilds, but this is not always the case. And, once a
hatch of native sunfish has been raised to accept prepared foods, then
having to feed exclusively "live-foods" is not the case!

He's now ready to give away a few bags of guppies in the Oregon area to any
aquarium society that will accept them, to make way for some beautiful
native sunfish into his tanks!
