Perhaps we should promote the keeping of native fish instead of exotic fish?
I don't mean that exotics should be banned and I know we already do promote
the keeping of native fish. But the biggest stumbling block in the keeping of
native fish is the government. If the government attitude towards the keeping
of native fish especially game fish were to change native fish would readily
become part of the hobbyist mainstream. I think a lot of cichlid keepers
would have chosen bass or sunfish had they been available and their unique
colors and behaviors been observed. I know a lot of exotics will not be
replaced by natives but some could and they could make a difference.
