I will have to admitt this is little more of guess work, but it is the only
way I can explain that sunfish ( and some other species of fish) can quickly
and directly find new tank inhabitants and are more aggressive to them. I
am sure most people familiar with tropicals have heard about the plecostomus
that was raised with some fish, then when a new one was added much later the
pleco ate its slime coat off.
