Well, from what I know from personnel experience I'd say that it's highly
unlikely the shark was alive when "caught." I have kept these sharks in
captivity and they are very difficult to keep in containers less than 100
gallons and even then they will die in a few days. The few times I have
managed to keep them in an aquarium I had massive aeration curtains on both
ends of the tank and they eventually died from self inflected wounds. I've
had a little better luck keeping them in round 6' kiddie wading pools but
still they expire from jumping out or wear big sore on their bodies from
scrubbing against the side of the plastic pool. So transporting them alive to
Lake Erie is problematic at best.
