I have been a Boy Scout leader since 1966. In the 1970's I regularly used
scout to drive fish down small steams to my net. About 1980 I got out of
the hobby and returned to it in 1995. I am more active in collecting native
now then I was in the 70's. Almost all of our monthly campouts are near
lakes, rivers or streams. I always take nets and waders and the boys
usually ask if they can take the minnow traps. As we are a group of adults
that didn't forget the joy of catching frogs and crawfish it shouldn't
suprize you to know that it dosen't take much to get boys into the creek.
After all I may be the only adult that has ever told them to go jump in the
creek and get muddy. I have also taken my six year old grandson out
collecting, he helps pick up fish from the net. He really enjoys it and
asks when we are going again.
