I don't know about the mineral oil, but I also use a q-tip dipped in rubbing
alcohol (Isopropanol) to dry my ears out if I get water in them. works
pretty well for a minor ear infection.

Hello,
I used to get ear infections from snorkeling and I finally pressured a
doctor to tell me what to do to prevent the problem. He said to put some
mineral oil into the ear before diving and afterwards to wash the ear out
with rubbing alcohol. Worked for me. I am not a doctor so maybe you should
ask yours just to be sure.
