The third specie of sunfish to spawn in my new Gar pond is the bantam
sunfish. Being small little guys, they had to become ingenius in avoiding
being picked off at night when resting on the nest. He built his nest
under a flat stone right along shore. The stone was large enough to create
a cave that compensates there small saucer sized nest. There were two
openings to this cave. One at the front, and one at the top rear. Both
these openings are as large as the sunfish are. I would see the male all
dark come out of the cave, display to the ripe female and drive off one
that was not, lure her in, theyd be in there alittle while , and then he
would drive her out one of the openings.
