RE: NANFA-- Used microscopes

Another possibility I did not mention are surplused or retired microscopes
from local Universities. Some of these scopes (particularly those NOT used
in Introductory Biology courses) are still very useable. One school that I
know of has given old scopes away to individuals that expressed a legitimate
interest and need for them (like teachers). A biology professor at my
wife's alma mater restores and cleans up old microscopes and gives them away
as a thank you gifts to people that make a donation to their departmental
research fund.

Jan Hoover was right about looking on e-bay if you're in the market for a
used microscope. I did a search on "microscope" and there were over 2100
hits, of which probably about 200 are really microscopes (and not
peripherals). I will say, though, that probably half the sellers of scopes I

checked out have at best a fuzzy idea of what they're selling. There was one

approx. 50 year old Leitz Wetzlar scope for $175 that looked pretty good,
though (my prejudice is to stick with German/Swiss optics...).
