Ironically enough, we have just been talking about trying to acquire some
from Lake Erie this spring. I suspect that they are like silversides, tough
to transport but once established, they would do well. We have an intern
that just finished up at Ohio division of wildlife. She was out on the lake
catching everything and she said that the smelt were usually found in deep
water and most did not look good when they came up. I would like to get a
large circular tub on the boat, create a circular current, then pick out the
best of the thousands they get in each net hall. Not sure how they would do
but if I got even a couple of dozen to survive, then that's a couple dozen
more that aren't dead by the end of the day.
