I find this true also, even when caught in the winter they go belly up
quite easily. they were introduced to the marsh recently in a small hole
that is gfed from a 1/4 square mile resivoir that is only 3 feet deep
throughout except a channel around its perimeter about 10 feet deep. The
water is very dark tannic water, so this species may be more adaptable. I
was astounded when my friend had some in his bait bucket and said he had
caught them there, sure enough, the next chance I had I checked it out.
Swimming with golden shiners were the emerald shiners. also were
introduced creek chubs in this habitat , spooky.
