That snail Idea got me thinking. It seems to me o-spots do best in areas
with some kind of higher mineral content. Not necessarily hard alkaline high
TDS waters, but an area with some mineral content, like an area of a stream
with dolomite in it is preferred over an area that is just muddy and stumps.

Maybe this fish isn't getting the needed nutrients to metabolize its food
correctly? I know this may be renegade territory, but I have beefed up
"pale" fish by putting some herp vitamin supplement inside earth worm
pieces. Another aspect of the snail, maybe it contains a bacteria in it that
aids in digestion that this fish lost somehow, or got by without until
captivity?

Just some thoughts to hopefully help.
