bg sent me a longnose gar and it sure has been a lot of fun. i caught a net
full of juvenile shiners and stonerollers as feeder fish. i drop one into the
tank and watch that beast slowing ease into position, like a stalking log.
when it gets within 1/2"... STRIKE! i swear i cant see the hit and have tried
intensly. he must enhale at the same time he strikes. bg pointed out that the
gar uses its tail as a distant fluttering distraction... much like a cats
uses its twitching tail when stalking prey. i eventually plan on dropping it
into my 25k cement pond as it outgrows the too lttle 10 gal tank he is now
in. he is about 5" long now... very pretty... black w/ golden brown
markings. a real treat.
