My black Banded Sunfish do very well on bits of cut up shrimp and scallops that I buy at the grocery store. I feed them flake food early in the day and they get the shrimp later so it doesn't spoil their appetite. I cut it up with a razor and squish it. My Blue Spotted sunfish gorge themselves on the stuff.

Years ago, someone told me to feed my fresh water fish sea food because there is less chance of transmitting disease to the fish. I have been doing it for over 30 years. I have the shrimp hidden in the back of the refrigerator, because they sometimes gets eaten by the kids if they find it. Everyone seems to like the shrimp.
